Indicative Custom Packaging Price Ranges: How to Plan a First Quote

6 min · Updated 2026-10-26

An indicative custom packaging price range is useful for planning, but it is not a quotation. The final unit cost depends on the box structure, dimensions, board grade, print method, finishing, insert, quantity per size, packing and freight. Colormix confirms the number after the specification is fixed.

Why a range is more useful than a single number

A single price without a specification is easy to compare and easy to misunderstand. The same box can move into a different price band when its dimensions, board thickness, finishing or quantity changes. The table below is a planning reference for a first conversation, not a firm offer.

Planning bands

The ranges below are indicative placeholders for planning and must be verified against current production costs before publication as a commercial offer. They are shown as a framework until the final Colormix price data is confirmed.

The seven inputs to send with a price request

  1. Product dimensions and packed weight.
  2. Internal or external box dimensions, clearly labelled.
  3. Quantity per size and the number of sizes.
  4. Board, paper or flute preference, if already decided.
  5. Print method and finishing: foil, emboss, UV or lamination.
  6. Insert requirement and product protection needs.
  7. Destination, Incoterm and target delivery date.

Why 500 pcs per size does not equal one price for every size

The minimum is quoted per size because each size can change the dieline, material layout, tooling, make-ready and sample. A 500-piece order with three sizes is therefore not the same production job as 1,500 pieces of one size.

What Colormix returns

A complete reply should separate material, printing, finishing, tooling, sampling, packing and freight where applicable. Colormix provides a digital sample in 3–7 days or a production-line sample in 7–10 days; bulk production is normally 15–22 working days after sample approval.

Until the dimensions and specification are fixed, treat any price as a planning range rather than a quotation. Send the brief for an itemised quote.

Apply it to your own box

Send the product dimensions and packed weight, the quantity per size, the channel and the destination. The reply is a specification with a price attached, and the tooling shown as its own line.
