Filled weight, not empty weight
A 220 g candle in a glass jar can weigh over 400 g packed. Board grade and insert design are calculated from the packed weight, because that is what the carton carries.
Industry
Colormix supplies candle packaging boxes wholesale from Guangzhou, China — 500 pcs per size, digital digital samples in 3–7 days; production-line samples in 7–10 days; production-line samples in 7–10 days, bulk in 15–22 working days after approval. Boxes are sized on the filled weight, with clearance around the glass and an insert that carries the jar rather than gripping it. Cartons, rigid boxes and mailers are quoted against the same brief.
A candle is heavy, fragile and often sold as a gift. Those three facts decide the packaging: the base has to carry the filled weight, the glass has to be held away from the walls, and the box has to look good enough to give without wrapping. A range usually ends up with three items: a printed candle box for the shelf, a rigid candle gift box for gifting and a mailer for online orders.
The same structure behaves differently across these three situations. They are the first we ask about.
A carton that holds the jar and carries a printed lid panel.
Lid and base box with a divided tray, so glass never touches glass.
Mailer sized to the jar plus a scent card for monthly despatch.
Three structures cover most briefs in this category. Each is quoted per size, from 500 pcs.
Printed carton plus a die-cut platform that centres the jar.
Gift-set box with a tray cut to the base diameter of the jar.
E-flute outer with a paper insert for single-jar postage.
Four constraints drive most of the decisions here. They are the first things we ask about.
01
A 220 g candle in a glass jar can weigh over 400 g packed. Board grade and insert design are calculated from the packed weight, because that is what the carton carries.
02
The insert holds the jar away from the walls so an impact deforms the box before it reaches the glass. Foam, pulp and corrugated fitments each give a different level of protection.
03
A shelf carton and a gift box are different products. When a candle is bought as a present, the lid, the insert and the interior print carry more weight than the front panel.
04
Some inks and laminates are affected by fragrance oils over time. Where a candle is packed soon after pouring, we specify the finish with that in mind.
Most brands in this category need three or four of these, not one. Each is quoted separately.
| Component | How it is built |
|---|---|
| Retail carton | Crash-lock or tuck-end carton on 350–400 gsm board, sized to the jar with a printed base. |
| Gift box | Rigid or magnetic box with a pulp or foam cradle, ribbon pull and foil detail on the lid. |
| Travel tin sleeve | Printed sleeve or small rigid box for tins, often with an open window. |
| Shipping mailer | Corrugated mailer with a die-cut fitment, sized for one or two jars with corner clearance. |
Three finishes do most of the work here. The full library, photographed as macros, sits on its own page.
Stops scuffing on a dark wrap and keeps the shelf look matte.
Gold on black or forest green, legible at arm’s length.
Unprinted, tactile branding that suits a minimal range.
Yes. Multi-cavity inserts are made from pulp, corrugated or foam, with the spacing set so the jars cannot touch each other in transit.
Molded pulp and corrugated fitments hold glass well when the cavity is designed for the jar shape and the box has enough clearance. For heavy jars or long routes we test the packed weight against the insert before quoting.
Yes. Interior print is common for candles because the lid is seen when the box is opened. It is printed on the wrap before the box is assembled.
500 pcs per size, for every box type.
